Thanks to the hard work of an amazing team of staff and carers, Links View Extra Care has remained an entirely coronavirus free zone throughout the pandemic.
Strict procedures are in place for hygiene and handwashing, and wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE). On arrival in reception at Links View, all staff wash their hands and take and log their temperature. Face masks are routinely worn, along with additional PPE when interacting with residents.
What Does it all Mean?
Many people have found the lockdown requirements confusing! So it’s understandable that our elderly residents, many in their late 80’s and 90’s, will need some help with the constant string of government updates.
To help the residents, the amazing staff have been translating details from the daily News Conference into plain English. These notes and memos are circulated to everyone to explain what the changes mean to them.
We’ll Meet Again
Sadly, keeping Links View an entirely coronavirus free zone has also meant an end to the enjoyable social gatherings which everyone used to enjoy! Under normal circumstances, this sprightly bunch don’t miss an opportunity for a get together.
Restaurant meals, cooked by the in-house chef, are now delivered to residents apartments to avoid gatherings in the dining room at lunch time.
Medication and groceries are delivered into reception by external suppliers, for staff to deliver them on to each person.
Remaining an Entirely Free Coronavirus Zone
The building is still in lockdown, and in line with Government guidance, expected to remain that way until at least the end of June.
It’s a nice respite that the ones who are less vulnerable can now go out on their own again, and meet their family members outside in the garden.
The majority of the residents are quite vulnerable so are shielding. If it means that they’re kept safe and Links View remains an entirely coronavirus zone, it’s a sacrifice worth making. Most people who live at Links View have coped well with lockdown so far – although it’s fair to say they’re getting a bit fed up now!
Better Alternative than a Care Home
However, the residents are also grateful to be living in Links View, as a much better alternative to either a care home or being at home in the community. It really is the best of both worlds, and the coronavirus pandemic has shown just how good this world is.
For the last 3 months our residents have had peace and quiet and lived their life in their own homes. But they’ve also been safe and looked after with medication and shopping, delicious meals and people to call on. You can’t say better than that!
